There are some brands you work with, and then there are brands that become part of your life. For me, Pedro’s Premium Ògógóró sits firmly in the second camp.
I first met the team behind Pedro’s in 2019. Heard the story and was hooked. Tasted the product, and to be honest I didn't immediately get it the enormity of what they we're doing. I was just excited about Ògógóró this product I'd never heard about.
Why Pedro’s Ogogoro Matters
Pedro’s isn’t trying to sanitise or reinvent ògógóró. It honours it.
Rooted in Nigeria’s riverine communities, Pedro’s elevates palm spirit without stripping away its cultural depth. Every bottle carries more than alcohol. It carries story: the Nsibidi script, the Pedro’s manifesto, and a transparent breakdown of the stages of production.
This article isn’t just about product. Value Africa exists because I want to share the things I genuinely love with the world. Pedro's is one I'm extremely proud to keep sharing.
What follows is a complete walkthrough of every Pedro’s Ògógóró bottle in my personal collection, including a rare aged release that we’ve finally been able to bring to the UK. If there's a bottle in your collection that I've not got in mine - let's talk!
Pedro’s Batch 0: The Origin Story
Batch 0 is where it all began.
This early release features a slightly different bottle design, but the DNA of Pedro’s is already there. You see the Nsibidi script. You read the manifesto. It has got different hues of blue, which reflects the riverine communities where Ògógóró is made.

Why I love it:
For me, Batch 0 represents raw beginnings and takes me back to first time I tasted Pedro's. It's a time I can never get back too, so I'm always a little excited when I am sharing it with others.
I actually had to pick this up in Ghana. I bought two bottles, and (obviously) shared one with the family.
The Classic Pedro’s Ogogoro: The Icon
This is the Pedro’s most people know and love.
The deep blue bottle reflects Nigeria’s riverine landscapes. The gold embossing on blue makes Pedro's stand out. The Nsibidi script is more integrated and the Manifesto has a subtle change, including the words "Our Pedro's". This edition, introduced the 'Iro' gift wrapping which covers the naked Pedro's bottle.

Why I love it:
This is the commercial bottle, the one which we've been able to take to best bars and bartenders around the world. This is the one that turned it from being a passion project to something commercially viable.
The 60th Anniversary Edition: A Collector’s Piece
This is one of the rarest bottles in my collection. One of only 60 produced.
This was released to mark Nigeria’s independence anniversary: 1st Oct 2020. This edition comes in a beautiful presentation box and contains real edible silver inside the bottle. Even more striking, Pedro’s changed their mantra on the label to the National Anthem (at the time), Arise, O Compatriots. They've it back to the original independence anthem in 2024.

Why I love it:
I only recently added this bottle to my home collection. It remains unopened. Some bottles are meant to be preserved. This one is sentimental.
Pedro’s Aged Ògógóró: The Intense Palm Flavour
This is the release I’ve been waiting years to talk about.

Pedro’s Aged Ògógóró is matured in palm vessels for around 60 months, then blended with other aged Ògógóró stocks to achieve consistency. The result is bold intense Palm Spirit and unapologetic.
- ABV: 60%
- Ageing: Palm vessels + blended maturation
- Profile: Deep, complex, powerful
We’ve managed to secure enough bottles for a limited UK commercial release. We first offered it to our Pedro’s customers: people who’ve supported the brand from the start. A small allocation remains and we’re now opening it up more widely.
Why I love it:
This bottle is innovation. It proves the versatility of Ògógóro. It belongs in the global aged spirits conversation.
